Sind Notesler zu sehr auf ihre Plattform fixiert?

neulich auf EdBrill.com war wieder so einer...

vielleicht nehme ich die Sachen viel zu ernst.
Aber unter uns Noteslern scheint meiner Meinung nach die Distanz zur Plattform schon bei einigen verloren gegangen zu sein.
Da wird dann auf eine Weise argumentiert, die einfach nicht sachlich ist.
Oder?

Is it just me or does it seem like you want to rebuild everything in J2EE?? While there might be a buzz about everything you have described, I think you are missing the big picture.

When a developer thinks about building a Notes/Domino application, he thinks mostly about how to implement and enhance the customers process.
und das macht man mit .net, pascal oder j2ee nicht?
He doesn't worry about things like authentication, replication, storage, directory services, encryption, or mail routing. He knows that all of those things are taken care of by Domino and have been time tested. He can spend more time with the customer addressing their needs instead of reinventing the wheel for the 15th time.
und das gibt es in j2ee, in .net, openSource Java und 120 Plattformen vorher nicht?

Oh, and if you think efficient, stable, and reliable replication is so easy to accomplish, why does IBM make Notes/Domino replication such a big selling point? If it's so easy, wouldn't Exchange have it by now? And for that matter, wouldn't all the big RDBMS's have it built in working for effective disaster recovery?
Die Replizierung von Lotus Workplace läuft von einer mini-RDBMS (Cloudscape, so weit ich weiss). Das ist also eine Anti-Lotus Aussage. HäHä

All of those technologies that you listed don't have the pedigree of Notes and may not be able to do everything that they are supposed to do. If you want a prime example, just think back to the Java Applet craze of the late 90's.
Weil Applets nicht funktioniert haben, funktioniert J2EE nicht?

The things that I take for granted as a Notes/Domino developer just do not exist in the Java/J2EE/Web Services world and aren't going to in the near future. When they do, Domino will no longer have an edge and might go away, but then again, maybe Domino will have a different edge.

Weiss nicht obs wen interessiert, aber Ed hat bei mir seit neuesten ein Stein im Brett (ist Ed vermutlich auch egal). Und zwar durch das I think you'll like it. Über Workplace. Auf eine Antwort hat er sich natürlich nicht eingelassen.   
Dazu ist der einfach zu clever. Er hat aber nicht gesagt "you will like it". Nein Ed sagt: I think you'll like it. Wenn alle Kunden mich so gut verstehen würden wie Ed gings mir besser.
Jeder hat seine Schwächen und Ed schmeisst eben gerne mit Lehm gegen Microsoft. Ok. Durch Sätze wie diesen, zeigt er aber einen true-intelectual-Kern, was in dieser happless Branche wirklich nur eine verschwindend kleine Minderheit von sich behaupten kann.

Genau deswegen lese ich (fast) nix von Ed Brill. Er ist ja derjenige, der gefeuert wird, wenn er sich kritisch äussern würde.

A little bit of hilarious rumprangern. Some shallow and distorted "loti techi talk" presented as "important facts".  Its so 80ties. Ok. Maybe early 90ties, but nothing more. I am seriously disapointed.  ;D

Aber ich lass das jetzt, weil irgendwie ist das "a real profesional in his own field".

Wir beschäftigen uns mit Detailfragen, so dass uns ab un zu der Blick für das ganze verloren geht - bis auf Axel natürlich  ;)
