Problem
Your Domino server has run out of disk space. As a result, when the Fixup task attempts to run, it has no choice but to mark documents and/or the database corrupt as it does not have enough disk space to repair it.
Specifically, when the fixup task runs it reports that there were "Insufficient disk space" and "invalid or nonexistent document" errors.
It seems to you that the server should have stopped running at the point at which the server ran out of disk space.
This issue has been reported to Lotus Software Quality Engineering.
One workaround for this issue is to enable Transaction Logging on the Server, which will roll partially completed database transactions forward or backwards as necessary. If the disk that contains the transaction logs becomes full, the server will halt.
Supporting Information:
It is important to stress that the fixup task is not corrupting the databases. Fixup cannot repair them because there is not enough disk space. As soon as disk space becomes available, fixup up will have enough disk space to repair the databases.
Note: If Fixup is run at all on a server that has transactional logging enabled it should be done with the -j switch. Fixup -j is used to force dbfixup on logged databases and should only be used if the database becomes corrupt and there is no backup to roll forward from.
This issue was tested on a Domino R5.0.6 server. The partition was filled up by copying all data from one drive to a folder that the Server was running on . The Server continues to run , the Domino console responds , and there is no indication that problems may occur. When attempting to send mail with an attachment, the error "Insufficient disk space" occurs, however, that suggests that Domino is working as designed.
