Encrypt Personal NAB Causes "Unable to Create Location..." Error When User Launches Notes
Problem:
When a user launches Notes 4.x/5.x, the following error occurs:
"Unable To Create Location Due to Error 'Wrong Password. (Passwords Are Case Sensitive - Be Sure to Use Correct Upper and Lower Case.)' Locations Cannot Be Used Until the Problem Has Been Corrected."
Under R5 the following message will then occur:
"Wrong Password. (Passwords are case sensitive - be sure to use correct upper and lower case.)"
Solution:
This issue is caused by a locally encrypted Personal Name & Address Book. The Location document is loaded into memory before the ID is accessed and, therefore, the workstation cannot decrypt the database. This generates the error.
This issue has been reported to Lotus Quality Engineering. Encrypting the Local Personal Name & Address Book is not recommended.
Workaround:
To work around this issue you must temporarily set up another database as the Personal Name & Address Book so that the encryption can be disabled on the original.
1. Exit Notes
2. From the operating system copy the Pernames.ntf file to TempPnab.nsf
3a. Edit the Notes.INI file
3b. Find the "Names=" line. Note the original setting and then update the line to read "Names=TempPnab.nsf"
4. Start Notes
5a. Select the database icon of the original Personal Name & Address Book database.
5b. Select File, Database, Properties, click the Encryption button, select the option "Do not locally encrypt this database".
5c. Select File, Database, Properties, select the Info tab, click the Compact button.
6. Once the database has been compacted (this will be noted in the Status line), exit Notes.
7. Edit the Notes.INI file and edit the "Names=" line so that it specifies the original Personal Name & Address Book.
8. Delete the TempPnab.nsf.
