Cannot Open LOG.NSF Documents - "Error: Paragraph or Field Cannot Be Larger Than 64K Bytes"
Problem:
Attempting to open a document in the Notes log (LOG.NSF) results in the following error message:
"Error: Paragraph or Field cannot be larger than 64K bytes."
The document cannot be opened.
Solution:
This issue was reported to Lotus Quality Engineering and has been addressed in release 5.0.1. In releases earlier than 5.0.1, 64k is the restriction in the design of NSF files.
The issue occurs when the Domino Server populates a field in a log document with more text than Notes can handle. Although there is no way to fix the document, you may be able to copy and paste the information from the Document Properties dialog box, into another application, such as Notepad. In order to do this:
- Highlight the document generating the error.
- Select File, Document Properties.
- Open the Fields tab.
- Highlight the "Body" field on the left side of the properties box.
- Highlight the text from the Body field on the right side of the properties box. A quick way to highlight everything is to click at the top of the text, and then press the Ctrl+Shift+Enter keys simultaneously).
- Press Ctrl+C to copy the highlighted information to the Clipboard.
- Paste the information into Notepad.
If you receive an error trying to bring up the Document Properties box, you will not be able to get at this information.
This issue has been known to occur with replication event and routing event log entries on servers replicating upwards of 1,000 databases; however, the issue can occur with any log entry document.
