Cause
This issue is known to occur if the workspace roaming feature is enabled in Notes 8.5.1.x. To confirm whether workspace roaming is enabled, see technote #1405295.

This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# RBEO7Y4T5Z and a fix is under investigation. A workaround is to temporarily disable the workspace roaming feature.

Workaround
1. Ensure that Retain View Column sorting is enabled in the Notes UI. Select File > Preferences > Basic Notes Client Configuration > Additional Options.  "Retain View Column sorting" should have a checkmark beside it.  


2.  Add DISABLE_WORKSPACE_ROAMING=1 to the local notes.ini.  


3.  Restart Notes.
