Vom Support hatte ich mal folgendes erhalten. Vielleicht hilft euch das ja weiter:

Default Browser - Use the default browser defined by your operating system. The user can typically make any browser installed on the system the default browser.

Embedded Browser - Notes 8 can use SWT (a Java UI toolkit used by Eclipse) to get a specific, hard-coded browser from the operating system. This is always Internet Explorer on win32, Mozilla on Linux and Safari on Mac OS. We call this the 'embedded browser'.

Notes Browser - PERWEB.NSF and Notes built-in HTML capabilities. These have not changed significantly from Notes R7.
