Error: "The Access Control List is Full..." Adding Roles to a Database ACL

Problem:

In Notes 4.x, you are adding roles to a database's Access Control List (ACL).  However, when you try to add the 76th role, the following error message appears:

"The access control list is full.  If you need to add new users, place existing users into groups on the list."

Solution:

Currently, the maximum number of roles allowed in an ACL is 75.  An enhancement request to increase this limit has been submitted to Lotus Quality Engineering.

The error message appears because that limit has been reached, even though you are not adding users to the ACL, and thus the message is misleading.  SPR PDOE3V5PW9 reports the problem with the error message.  There are currently no plans to address the error in Notes/Domino R5; however, a fix is being investigated for the next major Notes/Domino release.
