Problem
In Lotus Domino, you create agents based on the simple action, SendMail, to run after new mail arrives. Users are supposed to receive a notification when new mail arrives. However, if SendMail is triggered by an event, messages do not reach intended users and the agent does not run as scheduled, only manually.
Issuing the "tell amgr sched" command on the server console showed the agents were scheduled as expected.
The agent log showed that the agent was actually running and that the mail was sent but was not received. There were no access control list (ACL) issues, no problems involving daytime/nighttime parameters, and no error messages.
Solution
In one particular case, this situation was caused by an incorrect server name entered in the Server Document as follows: Ports panel --> Notes Network Ports --> Port TCPIP --> Net Address field. Correcting the server name in this field and restarting the server solved the problem.
In another case, the Notes Network Ports name for the TCPIP port was spelled incorrectly. Fixing the spelling and restarting the server this also solved the problem.
