After applying Microsoft update KB912945 to your Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) browser, you notice certain actions you take in IBM Lotus Domino Web Access (iNotes Web Access) releases 6.5.2 - 6.5.5 and 6.0.4 - 6.0.5 require an extra click.
When you hover over actions and buttons in Domino Web Access (DWA), the following message pops up:
"Click to activate and use this control."
You must click the desired action twice; the first click enables the ActiveX control, and the second click executes the actual desired DWA action.
This issue does not occur in DWA 7.x releases.
The issue does not occur in DWA 6.5.x releases prior to 6.5.2
The issue does not occur in DWA 6.0.x releases prior to 6.0.4.
Solution
DWA is working as designed. This Microsoft update changes the behavior of ActiveX controls in IE. Since DWA uses ActiveX for certain features, it must comply with the behavior of the browser in use.
This behavior occurs only with the IE browser. DWA does not use the ActiveX control in the Mozilla or Firefox browsers, so those browsers will not be effected by this Microsoft update.
The Microsoft update not only affects Domino Web Access, but any web page/application that uses ActiveX controls.
For information about this Microsoft update please refer to Article 912945 on the Microsoft.com site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912945/en-us Additional Information:
In anticipation of Microsoft's change to the behavior of ActiveX controls, we added code to the DWA 6.x and 7.x codestreams to update our attachment upload control so that the issue would not occur. However, in DWA 6.5.2 - 6.5.5 and 6.0.4 - 6.0.5 the extensions we write to the native IE rich text ActiveX control are failing, which is why the "extra click" problem occurs in those releases.
In DWA 7.0 we changed the architecture to not use the native IE rich text ActiveX control, which is why the problem does not occur with 7.0 and higher.
The changes made to DWA 7.0 will also be included in DWA 6.5.6.
Microsoft plans to include update KB 912945 in the April cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. Customers may install it without realizing they have changed the behavior of their applications. Update KB912945 is a non-security update for Windows, and Microsoft will also release an optional Compatibility Patch which will restore previous Internet Explorer behavior until the next cumulative security update in June, 2006. The following options are available to avoid the impact on IBM Lotus Domino Web Access from Microsoft Internet Explorer Update KB912945:
Remove update KB912945, using the "Add/Remove Programs" option in the Windows Control Panel, remembering to check the "Show updates" box.
Prevent application of optional update KB912945, if you have control over desktop software installations.
After application of the April cumulative security update, apply the upcoming Microsoft Compatibility Patch to Internet Explorer
Use another supported web browser to access the affected web pages, thereby avoiding the changes to ActiveX controls.
