Unread Marks Are Not Exchanged During Replication
Problem:
A user finds that unread marks are not exchanged by default when a database is replicated. For example, this becomes apparent when using a replica of the mailfile on the home machine, and accessing mail directly on the server from a separate office machine. The user reads messages on the home computer and replicates the database to the server. Later, when the database is opened from the office machine (on the server), the read messages are still marked as unread; the unread marks have not been exchanged.
Solution:
This behavior has been reported to Lotus Quality Engineering; however, it was determined not to be a software problem. Notes is working as designed. For performance reasons, unread marks are not automatically exchanged during replication. The unread mark table is updated by the local CACHE.DSK when the database is opened. Because the server database is not opened from the home machine in this scenario during replication, the unread marks table in the server database is not updated. For more information on the architecture of unread marks, refer to the document titled "The Architecture of Unread Marks in Lotus Notes" (#172075 ).
A user can, however, implement an INI parameter to enable unread marks to be exchanged (synchronized) during replication. The INI parameter is REPLICATOR_SYNC_UNREAD and is specified at the Notes client:
