Fehler beim Starten von Notes

Gleich beim Starten von Notes erscheint die Meldung "Fehler beim Lesen der Zeichenumsetzungsdatei". Nach der Bestätigung mit OK schliesst sich Notes wieder.

Das deutet auf ein API Programm hin. Dazu habe ich in der Lotus Knowledge Base folgendes gefunden:

"Error Reading Character Set Translation File" Starting Notes Client While API Program Is Running

Problem:

The follow error occurs when you attempt to start the Notes client on an AIX workstation while a Notes API program is running:

"Error reading character set translation file"

The error is not dependent on the content of API program.

Solution:

To resolve this issue, set the Notes_ExecDirectory environment variable to the Notes executable directory.

Notes and C API programs under UNIX require access to resource files and character set translation (.CLS) files at run time. To ensure access while developing and testing an API program, set the Notes_ExecDirectory environment variable to specify the Notes executable directory. After you complete the program, install it in the Notes executable directory to make it available to users.

Weiterer möglicher Grund - als erfahrerener Kaffeesatzleser tippe ich mal, dass das Dein Problem ist:

Error Reading Character Set Translation File" Launching Notes 4.x

Problem:

A customer launches the Notes 4.x Client and the following error message results:

"Error reading character set translation file"

Solution:

Copy over all .CLS files from the Notes directory of a workstation that has Notes running successfully and then launch Notes.  If that is not successful, uninstall Notes and then reinstall.

It appears that this error occurs when there are corrupt .CLS files.  Copying them over replaces the corrupt files.

This also helps on server issues where the server receives this Windows NT error when Notes is a Windows NT service:

"Error could not start the lotus notes service on the server error 2140: Internal windows NT error occurred".

In this scenario, when a customer attempts to load the Notes client, the "Error reading character set translation file" occurs.  By copying the .CLS files from the same server to the server that is failing, both errors messages are resolved.
