Problem
100% CPU usage occurs on a Windows workstation when the Notes R5 Client window is overlaid by another application window.
Solution
This issue was reported to Lotus Software Quality Engineering, and has been addressed in Notes 5.0.12 Client.

SPR# MALN52RKAC - Fixed the problem of the Notes Client using 100% cpu when the Client does not have the focus and is mostly covered by another application.
A workaround is to move the other application's window and/or give the inactive Notes window the current focus.

Example of steps to reproduce:
1. Load Notes 5.x Client on a workstation running Windows NT 4 Sp 5.
2. Open the Notes Client and open your mail file.
3. Restore down the Notes application window from full screen. In other words, in the upper right corner of the Notes program window click the Restore Down icon, which looks like two cascaded windows.
4. Open the Windows Task Manager (select the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys and select Task Manager) and click on the Performance tab to switch to the performance monitor.
5. Open a second application such as Lotus Word Pro or Microsoft Word or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Reduce this application to a window (click the Restore Down icon, which looks like two cascaded windows, in the upper right corner of the application window).
6. Position the second application window so that it is on top of the Notes window, covering most of Notes, but not hiding the Notes title bar.
7. Click the Notes window and click on a view or folder in the mail file. Refresh the view, and immediately click on the second application window. Note that the CPU in performance monitor should spike to 100% and stay there while the second application window is covering the Notes client window.
